Aphrodisiac herbs have been treasured across cultures for their ability to support intimacy, libido, and to promote vitality. By combining these revered botanicals with traditional chai spices, we’ve created a warming, indulgent chai that embodies sensuality and vitality—everything a jīng shén elixir should be.

Our aphrodisiac masala chai is perfect for savoring on chilly winter evenings or celebrating moments of connection, such as Valentine’s Day. Every sip offers a rich, spiced elixir that inspires connection, honoring the concept of jīng shén (精神)—a synergistic enlivening of life force and spirit.

Aphrodisiacs in the Context of Ayurveda

Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine originating in India, emphasizes the importance of balance—physically, mentally, and spiritually—for sustaining health and vitality. This harmony is rooted in the equilibrium of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, as well as the cultivation of Ojas (ओजस्)—the vital essence that supports immunity, energy, and intimacy.

Our aphrodisiac chai is intentionally and purposefully crafted with botanicals celebrated in Ayurveda for their ability to nourish the body, calm the mind, and invigorate the spirit. These ingredients have been traditionally used to enhance vitality, support sexual health, and foster an overall sense of well-being, making this chai both indulgent and deeply restorative.

Our Signature Jing Shen Aphrodisiac Chai Recipe

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of water
  • 2 cup of milk (or a dairy-free alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons of loose leaf black tea (preferably Darjeeling) or 6 black tea bags
  • 2 cinnamon stick
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 2 teaspoons whole black peppercorns
  • 2-inch piece fresh ginger, cut into thin rounds (or grated)
  • 6 cardamom pods
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds
  • Honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
  • Optional: The inside scraping of one whole vanilla bean or 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • Optional: A pinch of cayenne pepper
  • Optional: Six whole allspice

Aphrodisiac Additions

  • 1 tablespoon kava kava root
  • 1 tablespoon damiana
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (in addition to the ginger above)
  • 1 teaspoon horny goat weed
  • 1 teaspoon yohimbe*
  • 1 teaspoon muira puama
  • 1 teaspoon ginkgo
  • 1 teaspoon milky oat seed pods
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon per serving of Arrow of Eros Vital Fire Elixir Tincture

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, lightly toast the cinnamon sticks, cloves, peppercorns, cardamom pods, star anise, fennel seeds, ginger slices, and optional aphrodisiac herbs over medium heat until fragrant.
  2. Add the water and bring it to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the loose leaf black tea or tea bags and let them steep for 5 minutes.
  5. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract (or vanilla bean scraping), and add the optional cayenne pepper and allspice.
  6. Heat the mixture until it is warm, but do not boil.
  7. Optional: Remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon per serving of Eros’ Arrow Aphrodisiac Elixir Tincture.
  8. Strain the tea into cups and sweeten with honey or your preferred sweetener, if desired.

Adding the Aphrodisiac Additions

These herbs should be added at the start of the decoction process, alongside the initial ingredients. Opt for whole or cut-and-sifted herbs to ensure they can be easily strained out. Keep in mind that their distinct flavors will subtly influence the overall profile of the chai, adding depth and complexity to the final tea.

Note: Adding Eros’ Arrow Aphrodisiac Elixir Tincture to the hot tea will help dissipate the alcohol flavor from the tincture.
